H-IIAロケットによる打ち上げも成功が続き嬉しい限りです。
さて、今回打ち上げられた情報収集衛星ですが、発表されている解像度40cmについて、Google Mapに画像を提供している会社が最近解像度30cmのデータを提供し始めたということで、民間会社が運用する衛星よりも解像度が低く役に立たないのではないかという記事もみかけます。
確かに解像度は重要です。米軍の偵察衛星はハッブルと似た設計の衛星を複数運用していて、解像度も10cmを切ってるそうですし。ただ、解像度以外にも画像の解析技術は重要でしょうし、それにこれは偵察衛星ですから性能を正直に発表しているとも限りません。自前の衛星ですから、いつ撮影するかを自ら決定できるというところも重要ですし。まあいずれにしても、専守防衛の日本としては情報収集に力を入れてほしいものです。
